Directions

Fly to Porto(OPO), which is a direct flight from several international cities, including NYC. Arrive Friday if you must, but it might be a bit intense with jetlag and travel. Thursday arrival would be more pleasant.

Lisbon is fairly far, in case you’re wondering (3 hours).

There will be transfers that your hotel will arrange with you for when you land.

If you’re coming early, or just have the itch to road trip, each of those hotels listed in the “Accommodation” section is about 10-15 minutes away from all of our wedding events.

Below is a map indicating the general epicenter of our activities for the weekend.

Duoro Valley, Portugal!

So… here’s the pitch for Portugal…

First of all, it’s freaking lovely. It’s a chunk of geologically dramatic Iberia on the Atlantic. They have amazing wine and seafood. They have existed since the 1100s, and they used to rule most of the world (they basically invented colonialism, but we don’t have to get into that), so there’s plenty of old, cool stuff to absorb.

As an American, can you find Portugal on this map??

Cod. It’s not great, but apparently important.

Sardines are great though!

If you’ve been saying “Ferdinand Magellan,” you’re dead wrong. It’s “Fernão de Magalhães” guys. Try reading a book sometime. Speaking of dead, he died before circumnavigating the world but gets the credit anyway… Here’s an early photograph of him running into trouble in the Philippines.

OK so more relevant here, we are getting married in the lower Duoro Valley. It’s about an hour east of Porto, and it’s pretty much the nicest wine region.
